CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNI'A.
in the Matter of
Assembly Bill No. 1944. RESOLUTIQ�£ No. 67/459
WHEREAS it has came to the attention of the Board of Supervisors that
Assembly Bill No. 1940 has been proposed, which bill would prohibit counties -arid
cities from obtaining standard road or street signs ,such as appear on the uni-
form sign chart of the U. S. Bureau of Public Roads or the California Division
of Highways) by force account, except in emergencies caused by natural forces;
and
NFIREAS there is apparently a controversial matter involving various
manufacturers of signs and sign along equipment., as well as many governmental
agencies who are ultimately responsible for the placement and costs in the
various jurisdictions; and
9141EREAS such legal restrictions may be disadvantageous in certain areas,
if adopted; and
WhEREAS representatives of countie6 are willing to confer with industry"
representatives to resolve mutual problems such as this without necessity of
restrictive legislation;
N% THEREFORE$ BE !T BY THE BOARD RESOLVED that the Assemlly Committee
on Transportation and Commerce and the legislative representatives for Contra Costa
County be advised that the Board strongly recommends that Assembly Bill No. 19LO be
withdrawn or approval deferred in order to allow consideration of this bill by an
interim committee of the legislature and to lave the matter resolved by means of
a study committee composed of representatives of the sign industry and representa-
tives of city and county governmental agencies (or associations representing same);
and
BE !T FURTHER RESOLVED that Victor W. Sauer, Public Works Director, is
hereby AUTHORIZED to present this resolution to the aforesaid committee and repre-
sent the County of Contra Costa in this matter.

kyES: Supervisors James P. Kenny, Alfred M. Dias, James E. Moriarty,
Thomas John Coll.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Supervisor Edmund A. Linscheid.
