General Principl-ess The purpose of Ronoh is to treat emotionally dis.. turbed children to assist there in achieving levels of functioning which are effective in normal social settings'. A corollary goal is to assist families of such children to modify distorted or ineffect. ive patterns of relating to their children. II. Pro,ram Emphasiss The emphasis of the program is on rehabilitation of disturbed children and improvement of the dynamics of family relationships. Treatment is provided for the children through dai.l sessions of milieu therapy. Counselling relationships with parents are pro. vided through weekly group meetings, individual interviews and home visits. Family therapists provide individual treatment for selected parents who are not already in therapy with outside agencies. An an indirect service to the com=ity, some education and information is provided through occasional lectures to community organisations and referral information to individual inquiries. III. Provision and Administration of Services, The treatment of each child through the daily sessions is coordinated through interpretation with the counselling and therapy given his parents. Thus by helping the family to develop more normal relations with their disturbed child, treatment provided the child at Ronoh 'can be reinforced and assimilated at home. The directors supervise the daily sessions with the children, consult with -the family therapists, hold counselling meetings with parents, and schedule individual interviews and home visits as needed. Community Mental Health Services provide psychiatric, psycbological and social work consultation in treatment planning and counselling. 1V. Relationships with tither Community Grpgpst Formal contact is maintained with Community Mental Health Services in planning program and budget. Consultations are held with public and private mental health clinics and individual clinicians, some of which ` are supported by Short-Doyle funds. Informal contacts are maintained through attendance of meetings with the Mental. Health Association Advisory Hoard for West Contra Costa County, the Children's Affairs Committee, the Coordinating Council for the Mentally Retarded, and occasional visits to other treatment centers and clinics. V. Staff .Developments Staff development and in-service training include discussions of lectures, reviews of psychological literature and relevant training films in staff meetings; special training ' meetings for volunteers; the enrollment of some staff members in university or extension courses; the attendance of the directors in seminars in group therapy; purchase and reading of psychological reference materials: and attendance of special conferences and seminars. In the future we plan to continue all of these activities and to Increase the time devoted to them. 6 71ij i SERVICE. VISIT DESCRIPTION Center City/Co.
