3ir:: RS the growth and development of the WalnutCreek
area is the, County of Contra Costa has resulted lin traffic volume
which warrants the improvement and widening of Yg ..acio Valley
Road (FAS S Route dOO ) ; and
Qnacio Valley Road is an essential element in the
City-County Thoroughfare System, and the Select System of County
road8 and City streets , which ch has been adopted by the .roam of
Supervisors, based on recommendations of the Contra Costa County
Highway Advisory Committee , City-County Planners, and the Mayors ,
Conference; and conforms to the raster plans of the County and
City; and
The County of Contra {Mosta and the City of Walnut Creek
have executed a joint Powers Agreement to cooperate in he
widening and improvement of Ygnaclo Valley Road, FAS Route 800,
from Walnut Avenue to Oak Grove Road, as a Federal Aid Secondary
Urban Extension Project, 1 .1.7 miles in length; and
C"onstruc tion i s propose to start after January 1, 1968;
and
The total estimated cost of construction, including
preliminary engineering aznC'3 construction engineering of sa t7 project,
which is entirely within the urban area,, is estimated to be $790,000,
of which the County portion ,....mss' estimated to 4e10?i.,t3cs� and theCityof al.raut C1we portions estimated

The City and County,, riVor o advertising for bids, will
have acquired by purchase or condemnation, the rights of way
necessary for the improvement; and
The City and County have considered the effect of the
proposed financing in relation to the statutory formula contained
in Section 188 et se s4 of the streets and Highways Code; and
Section l?zM of the Streets and Highways Code, California
Statutes, provides that the California Highway Commission. may .sake
an allocation of funds for the extension of a Federal id Secondary
;y%slute into, or within, an urban area as soot areas are designated
by the Bureau of Public Roads;

NOW, THEREPORE, 3E IT RESOLVED by the County of
Contra Colita as follows:
1, That the County of Contra Costa hereby requests

the California Highway Commission to allocate funds pursuant
to section 143-3 of the Streets and Highways Code for the
