HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011967 - 1967-025 SIS THE BOARD OF SiU PEIR IS RS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of the i Job Upgrading Project � of neighborhood House j RESOLUTION NUMBER 67/25 of North Richmond, } WHEREAS the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa., California, has been apprised that the Job Upgrading Project of NNeighborhood Rouse of North Richmond, which has been financed by the U. S. Department of Labor, may not be continued with federal financial support beyond Jung 300 1967, I and. WHEREAS said project was initiated in 1960' with private foundation funds, was accepted as a demonstration project by the U. S. department of Labor in 1964* and was expanded and continued in 1966 with the aid of the U. S. Department of Labor; and WHEREAS the results obtained through the operation of the project have been significantly beneficial as shown by statistics on the training and employment of hundreds of project participants from. Forth Richmond, the Iron Triangle, and the City of San Pablo; and WHEREAS the California State Department of Employment has indicated a willingness to make modifications in. ' its program so as to utilize methods which. the Neighborhood House of Barth Richmond has demonstrated to be desirable and successful in connection with providing jobs for persons with records of long term unemployment; and WHEREAS this Board of Supervisors is cognizant of the effective work done by the Neighborhood Rouse of Forth Richmond such as in connection with the prevention of delinquency for which the beard provides $14,400 annually to said agency.- NOW, gency;IS I, THEREFORE, BE IT Y THE BOARD RESOLVED that it urges the . S. Department of Labor to give favorable consideration to the approval of a renewable application on the Job Upgrading Project of the Neighborhood Rouse of North Richmond so that this agency may continue with its effective work in providing training and employment for underprivileged people from low income areas; and BE 1T BY THE BOARD :FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution are to be transmitted, to The Honorable W. Willard Wirtz, U. S . Secretary of Labor, The Honorable Thomas H. Kuchel and The Honorable George Murphy, United States Senators, State of California , and to The Honorable Jerome R. Waldie, Congressman, 14th Congressional District, urging them to support the extremely desirable efforts and accomplishments of the Neighborhood Rouse of North Richmond, RESCL-LJT ON NUn R 67/2, PASSED AND ADOPTED this 10th clay of January, 1967,, by the following vote of the Board: :E° .
