WEEREAS former Congressman John F. Baldwin, Jr. , during
his tenure it he Congress of the United States, accomplished
many noteworthy objectives in behalf of the County of Contra Costa. ,
California; and
HEREAS it is the desire of the Board of Supervisors and
the people of Contra Costa Count; to establish in remembrance of
him a permanent memorial budding; and
WHEREAS his widow hers. Mary Baldwin has given to the
county from his congressional files many noteworthy documents of
historical significance; and
WHEREAS a. suitable memorial to former Congressman Baldwin
would be a library building in which said documents might be
preserved along with historical data on Contra Costa County and
along with books and periodicals pertaining to political science
and public administration;
NOW, THEREFORE, 3E 1T RESOLVED that it is the intention
of $;1'3is Board to b'.:i..d a library section of a part of the
Contra Costa County Central Library as a memorial to
Congressman Baldwin and in which o place for public use aforesaid
documents and volumes; and.
BE IT BY THIS BOARD FURTHER RESOLVED that Mr. Harmon K.
Howard, Chairman, Baldwin Memorial Committee, is tobe furnishedxKit h a copyofthis resolution so that he and the members of his
committee may be assured of he intention of he Board. of
Supervisors in connection with tne conmit tee campaign for
contributions from citizens who wish to participate in the
furnishing and development of the Baldwin. Memor gal Library.
