S this Board. by Order dated January 3, 1967, having referred to the Public Works Director for report Application No. 49057 filed by the Bay Area Rapid 'transit District with the State: Public Utilities Ccxwission for an exend— mens: to General Order No. 9 , f:Itales for Overhead Electric line Construction," with respect to .Rule 79, "Third Rails"; and 14H RE S the Public Works Director this day having .reported that the Public 'Works Bepart2aent and the Supervising Electrical Inspector of the Count Building Inspection Department have found the charges requested, by said Transit District to be generally appropriate for they reasons that the original rules were written when barbed wire fencing was the cocoon means for fencing rights of gray and urbanised areas were not so extensive; and the proposal to provide extended cyclone fencing and separation of railroad rights of waxy from roads and pedestrian ways by means of structures and tunnels will provide much greater safety than otherwise obtrained through the present reales; and � iS the Public works Director having reported, that it is his recom mandation that the rules and proposed amendments be further clarified., to wit; 1. Specify minimum heights and types of fencing as related to the development or papulation density of adjoining lands as a means of defining the possible hazard; 2. Specify the minimum frequency of access gages for emergency vehicles and equipment; 3. Speci..fy the max:tmw, spacing of warning signs to be attached to fences; , Delete the references to "cattle guards} in the second sentence Ln the proposed amendment to Reale 79.1 (B), or further modify same to read "At every opening in such fence, suitable fence gates (with cattle guards as required) must be used and a sign i.ns'talled near such opening as provided in Rule 79.411; and VEMEAS the Beard having considered the report and recommendations of the Public Works Bisector, ROW, MM+€ARE, BE, IT BY TYIIS BOARD RESOLVED that said report and recoramendations be APPRD TFD.
