HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011967 -1967-186 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS 01)P, CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Supporting the Pacific as and Electric Company With Respect to its Application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity to Construct a Nuclear Power Plant 3 RESOLUTION S UMEER 67/186 in Diablo Canyon, County of San Luis Obispo, NEEREAS Pacific Gas and Electric Company has on file with the California Public Utilities Commission, an application for a certificate of public convenience and necessity to construct a nuclear power plant in Diablo Canyon, San Luis Obispo County; and WHEREAS the Diablo Canyon site has been approved by the State Resources Agency and by leading California conservation societies; and WHEREAS Pacific Gas and Electric Company at present operates five steam generating plants in Contra Costa County which produce approximately two-fifths of the utility system' s entire output of power; and WEEREAS the availability of this large supply of electric power is one of the prime attractions for heavy industry in Contra Costa County and is essential to the operations of many of the county's principal industries; and WHEREAS the power produced by the proposed atomic steam plant In San Luis Obispo County will go into the grid system of the utility company' s Northern California service area, thereby making still more power available for Contra Costa industry; and WHEREAS the development of more low-cost electric power through the atomic plant in San Luis Obispo County and other prospective locations will add to the economic growth of California, which is competitive with other industrial areas now served by atomic power; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, mindful of the need for more industrial development throughout California to take care of the large year-by-year increase in population, respectfully urges the State Public Utilities Commission to grant the certificate of public convenience and necessity for said nuclear power plant; and BE !T FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be transmitted to the Public Utilities Commission, the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, the press of Contra Costa and San Luis Obispo Counties, and to others interested in the progress and development of California.
