COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Extending } Compliments and Appreciation RESOLUTION No. 67/147 to Frank J. "Lefty" O'Doul. WHEREAS the Board of Supervisors sof the County of Contra Costa, California, have been apprised that Contra Costa County friends of Frank J. "Lefty" O'Doul have made arrangements to honor him on the occasion: of his 70th birthday; and WHEREAS residents of Contra Costa County are well acquainted with the long and illustrious baseball player carseer', of "Lefty" O'Doul extending back to his school days in San Franc isseo, to the beginning of his professional baseball career in 1917 as a pitcher with the San Francisco Seals, to his conversion to an outfielder with Salt Lake City in 1924, to his notable achievements in the major leagues including the National League batting titles in 1929 and 1932 and ca-holder with Hall of Fame Bill Terry of the National League record for the greatest number of hits in a season; and WHEREAS the residents of Contra Costa County are also fully familiar with the notable career of "Lefty" O'Doul as a baseball manager of teams in San Francisco, San Diego, Oakland., Vancouver and, Seattle and, while a baseball manager, with his development of outstanding stars such as Joe and Dominic DiMagglo, Perris Fain, Larry Janssen, Gene Wood.ling; and WHEREAS "Lefty" O'Doul is well known Internationally,, Particularly among the Tokyo baseball fans to wham hes is known as "O'Doul-San" and among baseball followers in Honolulu, Hawaii; and WHEREAS since his retirement from baseball "Lefty" O'Doul has remained in contact with his thousands of friends through the operation of a restaurant in San Francisco and through active partici- pation in the game of golf which is now his favorite sport; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THIS BOARD RESOLVED that it extends to Frank J. "Lefty" O'Doul Its greetings upon the occasion of his 70th birthd.ssy$ its compliments for his outstanding career as a baseball player and a baseball manager, and its appreciation for providing throughout his career an outstanding example for youth to follow; and BE IT BY THIS BOARD FURTHER RESOLVED that it hereby designates Frank J. "Lefty" O'Doul as honorary citizen of the County of Contra Costa, California. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the following vote of the Bossard: AYES: Supervisors James P. Kenny, Alfred M.
