HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01011967 - 1967-602 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COMITY, STAB OF CALIFORNIAI In the utter of Financing the Development of the San Francisco Bay .Area Rapid Transit District RESOLUTION NO. 6-(/602 as Originally Planned. WHEREAS the Beard of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California has been deeply, concerned about the financing problems of the San Francisca Bay Area Rapid Transit District and the suggested cut-back in the system as originally planned; and WHEREAS the Board in a public hearing on this date obtained information from its director representatives on the Beard of Bisectors of said district and also from, the staff of said district with respect to financing and suggested out--backs; and WHEREAS It is the considered opinion of this Board that the transit system should be constructed as originally planned in Contra Costa County, Alameda County, and the City and County of San Francisoo, so that the system will be of maximum benefit as an important component part of the transportation facilities of said counties; and 4HERBAS in view of the current onerous property tax situation it is deemed inadvisable to have additional property taxes levied for the purpose of providing supplementary funds for said district; N(A , THEREFORE, BE IT BY THIS BOARD RESOLVED that the Honorable Ronald Reagan, Governor of the State of California, is requested to gall a special session of the California State Legislature concurrent with the 1907 "veto" session or immediately thereafter to consider and act upon legislation to provide addi-- ti.onal, funds to the San Francisco Bad; Area Rapid Transit District from non-property tax sources such as an increased toll on the Saga Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, from. increased "in 'Lieu" motor vehicle taxes, and/or from other revenue sources. BE IT By THIS BOARD ALSO RESOLVED that it considers the provision of additional revenues from non-property tax sources for said district to be a matter of immediate urgency and concern. BE IT BY THIS BOARD FURTHER RESOLVED chat copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Contra Costa Counter repre- sentatives in the California State Legislature, the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Alameda, and to the Mayors of all cities in the County- of Contra Costa.
