WHEREAS April 9 each year should bring to she minds of
all. the Filipino and American people the gallant stand made by
their soldiers In World War TI in the tattle of Bataan in the
face of numerically superior forces ; and
WHEREAS in the dark and distressful days of 1942 the
valiant struggle of the Filipino-American soldiers gave strength
and faith to all. their people and stood as symbol of certain
ultimate victory; and
WHEREAS the courageous action of the Filipino-American
troops in that conflict effectively delayed enemy farces and
gained the time critically needed for the regrouping of
t i.tted States Forces in the Far East ; and
WEEREAS the friendly relationship betweenthe Filipino
And American people which was sealed in blood in the Battle of
Bataan will forever signify that Americans will always fight for
the rights of those who wish to have a voice in their own govern-
ment ;

WHEREAS the r i.l.- American Association of Pittsburg,
California, a charter nonprofit civic organization., has patri-
otically urged that April, 9, 1957 be proclaimed by all levels of
government as BATA,.�?N DAY
NOW, THEREFORE. BE a.``i' BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF
THE Ct}[1N•.€Y OF CONTRA COSTA, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that April 9,
1967 is designated as BATA.&N DAY and all citizens of the county are
urged to observe and commemorate this date in honor of those who
fought so bravely at Bataan and who established that day in the
history of the Philippines and of the U i ved States) of America as
a. great turning point toward v€_ttc3ry.
PASS .€ND ADOPTED this 21st day of February, 1967, by
the following Grote of the Board:
