In the Matter of Designating the i Channel, Along the Shoreline of ) Contra Costa. County as the f RESOLUTION NUMBER 67/128 *John F. Baldwin Ship Channel.` WHEREAS the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors presented to the U. S. Array Corps of engineers in Judy, 19; 8, a brief requesting a study of the economic and engineering feasibility of the proposed ship channel improvementbetween the Sa.n. Francisco Bar and the Port of Stockton; and WHEREAS Congressman John F. Baldwin immediately introduced legislation obtaining Federal funds to finance such a study, and 11dFREAS during the five-year study period. Mr. Baldwin served as the principal liaison between local agencies and agencies of the Federal Government; and WHIEEREAS in September, 1965o Mr. Baldwin, as a. member of the 11ouse Public. Works Committee, obtained congressional authorization for the 61 million, project; and WHEREAS until his untimely death on Tlareh. 9, 1.966, the name of Mr. Baldwin was more closely identified with the ship channel improvement project than any other persona and WHEREAS it is the expressed desire of official agencies and thousands of his former constituents that the name of Mr. Baldwin be attached as a memorial to one of this projects he fathered in the interest of his district and the State of California; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOUI D BY THIS BOARD that the representatives of Contra. Costa County in the Congress and the Senate be requested to introduce a resolution officially designating the ship ch.annnel along the shoreline of Contra, Costa' County as the €John F. Baldwin Ship Channel." BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to the County representatives in the Legislature, members of the press, the John F. Baldwin Memorial.
