THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTS,., STATE OF
CALIFORNIA, DO ORWJN .AS FO LOWS
In the County of Contra Coate, there shall be the following
County and Township officers, deputies and employees, who shall be
paid as compensation for all services required of them by law or by
virtue of their offices, the salaries and other compensation herein-
after set forth:
1. BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
One stenographer-clerk, per Month $165,00
Two part time stenographers, per month each 20.00

Provided, further, that in any year when a General or
Primary Ele;etion, or a Special State , or County, or
Municipal, or District election is to be held,- or the
compilation of registration of voters is required by
law, or supplements to be made thereto, or the changing
of precinct boundaries becomes necessary, the County
Clerk shall receive for the hiring of extra help for the
compiling of such registration of voters and making sup-
plements thereto and work incidental to said election,
and the re-precineting of voters after the changing of
precinct boundaries, his actual expenses to be paid upon
filing and presentation of duly verified claims therefor,
or claims approved by the County Clerk, with the Board
of ;Supervisors of said County, after proper allowance of
said claim by said Board ofSupervisors; and provided,
further, the said County Clark may appoint such number of
registration deputies as may be necessary for the registra-
tion of voters in their respective precincts , each of said
deputies to receive the surm- of ten cents (100). per name
for each electorregistered by him, said registration'
deputies to be paid for their services on the presentation
and filing with the Board of Supervisors of said County a
duly verified claim therefor, on the general fund of said
County, after proper allowance of said claim by said Board
of Supervisors,

Provided, however, that there is hereby allowed each month
to each Justice of the Peace, a sum equal to twenty percent
of his monthly salary as and for the use of his private
office and/or office equipment in the performance of his
official duties as Justice of the Peace. It is further pro-
vided that no Justice of the Peace shall receive any expenses
of any kind, except the said sun of twenty percent of said
monthly salary; provided, however, that nothing herein con-
tained shall preclude the said Justices of the Peace from
being reimbursed for moneys allowed to them: by law from fees
received in the filing of small claims actions.
For purposes of this section, the various dockets and legal
forms required by the Justices of the Peace for the conduct
of their offices shall not be deemed to be expenses of their
offices, but such dockets and legal forms, subject to the
approval of the District Attorney, shall be furnished by the
county upon requisition to the :Purchasing Agent, and the ex-
penses thereof shall be defrayed from a general fund approp-
riation for the purpose. It is further provided that Justices
of the Peace of all townships shall issue receipts for all
money collected by them in the performance of their duties,
It is further provided that in case any Justice Court should
become a Class A Justice Court, that then and in that event,
the twenty percent of the monthly salary allowed to the Justice
of the Peace for the use of his private office and/or pffice
equipment, shall be discontinued and in lieu thereof a court-
room and Judge's Chambers shall be furnished to said Justice
of the Peace by the county.

It is further provided that Constables in Townships
Nos. 3, 9, 11 and 17 shall receive as and for the
use of their private automobiles in the performance
of their duties as Constables, per month 65.00
It is further provided that Constables in Townships
Nos. 1, 4) 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 15 and 16 shall receive
as and for the use of their private automobiles in the
performance of their duties as Constables , per month 50.00
It is further provided that Constables in Townships
Nos. 2, 13 and 14 .shall receive as and for the use
of their private automobiles in the performance of
their duties as Constables, per month 25.00
Each such Constable shall file a. claim on the first
day' of each and every month for the preceding month,
and no allowance shall be made to any such Constable for
such use of his automobile unless such a claim is filed
by him as herein provided.
It is further provided that no Constable shall receive
any mileage or expenses of any kind, excepting the sums
above stated,
In addition to the salaries, compensations and fees
above allowed, Constables in all classes of Townships
may receive for their respective use in civil cases the
fees allowed by law.

23. BONDS
The cost of bonds of county officers, their assistants,
deputies and employees, such as required by law to be
furnished, when executed by a reliable bond and surety
company, and duly approved, shall be a charge against the
county, payable out of the 'General Fund*
24. APPOINTMENTS
All deputies and employees shall be appointed by the prin-
cipal of the office in which they are employed, and shall
hold office at the pleasure of such principal„
5. ALLOWANCE FOR ACTUAL AND NBCWBARY MaMISRS
Actual, reasonable and necessary expenses shall be allowed
all the officers of the county and their deputies in the
discharge of their official duties, subject to such linita-
tio:ns as are elsewhere herein provided. Detailed expense
accounts ,must be rendered on the first day 6f each month
for the expenses incurred in the previous month. For travel-
ing necessarily done by private automobile, an officer shall

be allowed mileage at the rete of five and anew-half cent
per wile, without any constructive: mileage, and he ;shall be
allowed his actual traveling expenses when he travels by rail,
26. Except as otherwise herein provided, in addition to the .
salaries.,.- compensation and fees herein allowed, all county
officers shall receive and retain for their own use and benefit
such fees and compensation as are now, or may be hereafter allowed
by law to be received and retained by then for their own use and
benefit,
27. SKIAR g - HOW BATS
Salaries of all officials, deputies, clerks and employees herein
provided for shell be paid by the county in monthly installments ,'
at the same time and in the same manner, and out of the same fund
as the salaries of county officers are paid, except as herein
otherwise ordained; provided, however, that the salary and compen-
sation of all clerks, engineers, copyists and employees of every'
kind, working on a per diem basis, shall be paid only upon their'
filing with, and allowance by the Board of Supervisors of said
County, of their duly verified claims for the sum due them., pro-
vided, further,- that at the election of the employee, indicated by
written instructions of such employee, filed by him with the County
.Auditor, a portion of his salary or wages may be paid on his behalf
direct to his insurer to cover the amount of the monthly premium
on any insurance contracted for by him under any group insurance'
plan arranged by him in conjunction with ether employees.
All ordinances or ,parts of ordinances in conflict with this' ordin-
ance are hereby repealed.
This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after the
lst day of August, 1945, and before the expiration of fifteen days
after the date of its passage, the same shall be published with the
names of the members voting for and against the sane in.
