A#D LI:E BUSINESSES AND PROFESSIONS IN THEH COUNTY OF
CONTRA COSTA AND PR.F�SCRIBING A LICENSE FOR TIM EANAGE-
1 N'NT, CONDUCTING AND OPERATING OF THE S E, AND PROVIDING
PENALTIES FOR ' VIOUTION THEREOF
The Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa do ordain
as follows
SECTION I. Every fortune Teller, Astrologer, Seer, Clairvoyant,
Palmist, Phrenologist, Spiritualist, Spiritualistic xpaedium or Character
and Yind Reader, demanding or accepting a fee for his or her services
shall, before carrying on such business or profession within the County
of Contra Costa, procure a license from the County of Contra Costa so to
do, and pay to the Tax Collector of the County of Contra Costa a license
tax hereby imposed on said business, profession, calling or occupation.
SECTION II. Every person engaged in the business , calling, pro-
fession or occupation provided for in Section I of this Ordinance in the
County of Contra Costa, shall pay a license tax of Twelve Hundred Dollars
($1200.00) per twelve (12) month calendar period or portion thereof pay-
able in advance. No license shall be issued to any such person except
upon the following demands and conditions.
(a) The payment of Twelve Hundred Dollars (41200.00) per twelve
(12) month calendar period, or portion thereof, payable in advance, com-
mencing the day upon which said license is issued.
(b) That such person applying for said license and any employee
or partner of any such person shall be fingerprinted, photographed and
registered with the Office of the Sheriff of the County of Contra Costa,
;Mate of California.
SECTION III. Every person who violates any of the provisions of
this Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction
thereof, shall be punished by a fine not exceeding Five Hundred Dollars

(4500.CC) , and by imprisonment in the County Fail for not more than
.six ( b) months or by both such fine and imprisonment.
SECTION IV. This ordinance is an ordinance for the immediate
preservation of the peace, health and safety of the County of Contra
Costa, and the facts constituting its urgency are declared as follows:
That there are, at the time of passing this ordinance, a large
number of Gypsies located within the unincorporated areas of the County
of Contra Costa, and it is imperative for the protection of the citizens
of the County of Contra Costa, and for the preservation of peace and
order in said County of Contra Costa, and for the public peace and safety
that the businesses and professions herein sought to be regulated., be
conducted in an ordinary and peaceful manner.
SECTION V. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
the date of its passage, and before the expiration of fifteen (15) days
after the date of its passage the same shall be published with the nannies
of the rn.erabers of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa
voting for and against the same, in the SAID PABLO HEED ,
a newspaper printed and published in the County of Contra Costa.
Adopted by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa,
on the 7th day of 11ay, 945 , by the following vote:
A'F'B: Supervisors - Ripley , Cummings, Taylor, Buchanan and Trembath.
NOES: Supervisors - none.
