AN ORDINANCE OF THE COUP OF CONTRA COSTA, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, DIRECTING THAT TEE ACCEPTANCE OR REJECTION OF TIM PROVISIONS OF TIM COUNTYrLOYEES R TIRMIENT ACT OF 1937 OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA BE SUBMITTED TO THE ELECTORS OF CONTRA. COSTA COUNTY AT THE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD NOVMMER 191.4• The Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa do ordain as follows; I. Purposes of Ordinance: The purpose of this ordinance is to give the electors of Contra Costa County an opportunity to recognize a public obligation to such of its employees as may become incapacitated by age or long service in public employment, and its accompanying physi- cal disabilities by the acceptance of the provisions of the County Employees Retirement Act of 1937 of the State of California, and all ,Acts amendatory thereto, thereby making provision for retirement, com- pensation and death benefit as additional elements of compensation for future services, and at the same time to provide a means whereby public employees who may become incapacitated may be replaced by more capable employees to the betterment of the public service without prejudice and without inflicting a hardship upon the employees removed* II. By the County Zraployeas Retirement Act of 1937 is meant that certain act of the Legislature of the State of California, approved June 30, 1937 (Statutues of 1937, Chapter 677, Page 1898) , entitled "An .Act to provide for the creation, establishment and adjustment with other such systems of a retirement system for employees of the several counties and districts as defined herein, and attaches of municipal courts consisting of retirement, compensation and death benefits" and all Acts amendatory thereto. III. The County Clerk of the County of Contra Costa is hereby ordered to place upon the ballot to be used in the General Election to 1. be held on Novemberr 1944, the proposition of whether the provisions of the County Employees Retirement Act of 1937, and amendments thereto, shall be accepted or rejected. IV. If a majority of the electors voting upon such acceptance proposition at such election shall vote to accept the same, the provi- sions of said County employees Retirement .Act of 1937, and amendments thereto, shall become operative and effective on the first day of Xuly, 1945. This ordinance shall take effect, and be in force from and after thirty (30) days from the date of the passage thereof, and before the expiration of fifteen (15) days after the passage thereof it shall be published with the names of the members voting for and against the same for one (1) week in Richmond Independent , a newspaper printed and published in the said County of Contra Costa, State of California.
