AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 275 being
AN ORDINANCE CSE TO RE*=TE THE COMPENSATION OF OFFICERS
OF THE COUNTY OF CONTR& COST., AND TO PROVIDE FCS
THE MBER, APP II ENTS, TMS, AND C 01WENS .TIO
OF DEPUTIES AND EMPLOYEES THEREOF; AND REPFALING
ALL ORDINANCES, or FART'S OF ORDI A�?C ES IN CONFLICT
The Board of Supervisors of the County of Centra Costa,
State of California, do ordain as follows.
Section 1.1. of Ordinance No 275 of the County of
Contra 'Costa, is hereby amended to read as fellows.
11. SHERIFF. The Sheriff, Five thousand Dollars 35,000-00)
per annum; provided that there shall be and there is hereby allowed
to the Sheriff the following deputies, clerks and employees o
shall be appointed by the Sheriff and shall hold office at his pleasure,
and shall be paid the following salaries; One Undersheriff, at a
salary of Two hundred and fifty Dollars ($250.00) per month, one
deputy 'Sheriffat a salary of Two hundred a nd twenty-five ($225.00)
dollars per month.; three deputy sheriffs at a $alar; of Two hundred
Dollars ($200.00) per month;, each; one deputy sheriff to act as day
jailer at a: salary of One Hundred and Seventy--five Dollars ($175.00)
per month; one deputy sheriff to *at as night jailer at a salary of
One Hundred and Seventy—five dollar' ($1 .00) per month; two deputy
sheriffs to act as Bailiffs at a salary of One Hundred eighty-"five
Dollars ($195.00) per month .eph; one deputy Sheriff at a salary of
One hundred, and eighty-five dollars 0155 00) per month; two deputy
Sheriffs at a. salary of One hundred and Seventy—two Dollars 0172.00
per month each, one deputy sheriff .to act as photographer at a salary
of One hundred and. Sixty dollars 3160.00) per mouth,; one deputy
Sherif to act as radio technician at a salary of One Hundred and

each; four deputy Sheriffs at a salary of One hundred and fifty
dollars {$150.00) per month, each; one deputy sheriff to act as
superintendent of the jail branch at a salary of One hundred and
seventy—five dollars { 17!x.Qty) per month 'tom deputy sheriffs
to act as guard at the ,Fail branch at a salary of one hundred and
fifty dollars ($150-00) per month, each; one secretary at a salary
of One hundred and thirty dollars 3130-00) per month, one jail
matron at a salary of One hundred and ten dollars ($114.00) per month;
provided, further, that the sheriff may employ from one to five
persons to act as deputy sheriffs at a salary of Four and 54/140
Dollars (44-50) per day,when,in the judgment of the sheriff, such
deputies are necessary; provided, however, that the total amount
of the compensation for such additional deputies to be paid per diem
shall not in any fiscal year exceed the total sum of Eight Hundred
Dollars ($900.00) and provided, further that the Sherif ' may employ
extra guards at the jail branch at a, salary of Five and 04/140' doll--
ars { 5. 403) per day, when, in the ,judgment of the sheriff such guards
are necessary; provided, howevew° , that the total amount of the
compensation for such extra guards to be paid per diem shall not in
any fiscal: year exceed the total sum of One Thousand Three Hundred
Dollars ($1344.44); provided, further, that the compensation of
such. Last mentioned deputies and extra guards shall be paid upon
presentation of duly itemized verified claims filed with the Board.

There shall be and there is hereby allowed to the Sheriff
to be by hire retained for his own use all mileage for service of
papers in civil actions arising either in or outside of the County,
excepting actions in which the county is interested, and also all
alleage in criminal cased for each mile actually and necessarily
traveled by automobiles at the Wrote of Five and ones-half cents (5 11240)
per mile] All fees collected by the sheriff for the service of papers
and processes in civil matters shall be collected by the Sheriff for
the use and benefit of the County and shall by him be paid into the
County Treasury at such times and manner as required by law.
All Ordinances, or parts of ordinances in conflict with this
Ordinance are hereby repealed; and provided, furthers
This Ordintince shall take effect and be in force from and after
the l9t day of September, 1939, and before the expiraticn of fifteen
days after tbe date of its passage the same shall be published with
the names of the members voting for and against the same in the Contra
Costa standard a newspaper printed and published in the County of
Contra Costa.
