An Ordinance to amend Ordinance Yo.138 of the' County of
Contra Costa, Entitled, An Ordinance to License and Regulate
the Sale of Vinous, Spirituous, Malt, Fermented or Other
Intoxicating Liquors.
The Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa,
State of California do ordain as follows.
Section 1.
Section Eo.l of Ordinance No.138 is hereby amended to
read as follows; The following words in this ordinance shall have
the signification attached to them in this section unless otherwise
apparent from the context.
(a) INTOXICATING LIQUOR DEFI:M: "Intoxicating Liquor" is
hereby defined to mean and shall for the purpose of this ordinance
wherever the words "intoxicating liquor" appear, include and mean
any spirituous, fermented, or melt liquor, and every wine and every
compound of liquor capable of human consumption which is intoxicating.
(b) PERSON DEFINED: "Person" wherever appearing in this ordinance
shall be construed to mean a person, firm, partnership, corporation,
or association.
(c) WHOLESALE LIQUOR DEADER DEFINED: A "wholesale liquor dealer"
is hereby-defined to be a person who sella , or in any manner disposes
of intoxicating liquor, not to be consumed on the premises, in
quantities not less than one quart , excepting sales made to retail
liquor dealers.
(d.) RETAIL LIQUOR DEALER DEFINED: A "retail liquor dealer" is
hereby defined to be a person who sells or in any manner disposes
of any intoxicating liquor in quantities leas than one quart , which
may be consumed on the premises,.
A club is hereby defin# ited to be an association
or incorporation of persons, organized for any purpose, who shall
sell , give, or furnish intoxicating liquors to any person whether
it be members of said association or corporation, or other persons.
Section 11.
There is hereby added to said Ordinance No.138 "a new

section, which said section will read as follows:
Section $11f
Every club which shall sell, give, or furnish any intoxicating
liquors to any person whether it be its own members, or other people
shall secure a license so to do , and shall file an application with
the Board of Supervisors for a license and the application shall
contain: 1. The names in full and the address of all the officers
of said club,
2. A full and complete description of the location of the
said proposed place of business.
3. A statement that the applicant if granted a license
will obey all statutes of the State of California, ordinances,
rules, and regulations of the Board of Supervisors governing or
relating to the conduct of places of business where Intoxicating
liquors are sold.
Such petition must have endorsed thereon a certificate,
signed by ten residents heads of families, who are electors of the
School District within which said business is to be carried on, and
who have been said residents and electors for twelve months next
preceding the date of such application.
Section Z.
Section 5 of Ordinance No.138 is hereby amended to read as
follows: The rate of .lieense to be obtained under this ordinance
shall be as follows-.
"For every retail liquor dealer, one hundred ($100) dollars
per annum.
For every wholesale liquor dealer,
one hundred ($100)
dollars per annum.
For every club
per annum.
Section 4.
This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and
after thirty days after its passage and publication.
Passed this 3rd day of July 1916.
The foregoing Ordinance was passed by the following vote
of the Board to wit:
