Any person, firm, corporation, or co-partnership who shall violate any of the pro'v,.Isiozs of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be pun- ished by a fine not to exceed five hundred (500) dollars or by im- prisonment in the Count; Jail for not more than six months or by both such fine and im )riso:dment. Sec. 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force fifteen (15) days f rom and after its passage and due publication as required by law. I. I No person, firm, corporation or co-partnership engaged in or carrying on any business,undetta.ing or enter- prise of any kind or nature whatsoever:,;. within the County of Contra Costa, shall issue or cause; to be issued in payment for or as evidence of indebtedness for wages, earnings or moneys due an employee, person or laborer in its employment, any order, check, draft, memorandum or other e*idence or acknowledgement of indebtedness for such wages, earnings or moneys unless the same is negotiable ,and is pay^',le without disco-Lnt, in cash, at gome .Bank .having an established plane of business ' '. , revery person, firm, corporation or co-partnership shall upon presentation and de- rind pay any such order, check, draft, :memorandum or other evidence or acknowledgement of such indebtedness in lawful money of the "United States.
