SUBJECT: Approval of Contract #23-057-1 with Nu-Med Medical , Inc. .Illl
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute on behalf of the County, Contract -
#23-057-1
ontract _#23-057-1 with Nu-Med Medical , Inc. in the amount of $303,600 for the period
February 1, 1986 - January 31, 1987 for provision of management services for the
Health Services Department.
II . FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Funding for this services is included in the FY 1985-86 Department Budget. This
contract is 100% County funded.
III . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND:
On February 28, 1984 the Board approved Contract #23-057 with Nu-Med Medical , Inc.
for management services for the Health Services Department. Contract #23-057-1
continues this service through January 31, 1987. This contract provides fiscal
management services, management of the hospital and non-hospital based clinics,
and consultation services as needed, regarding budget, systems, billing, operations,
and staffing.
The contract payment limit for the term from February 1, 1985 through January. 31,
1986 was $525,000. The reduction of the twelve-month payment limit to $303,600
reflects the elimination of additional on-site staff required at the onset of the
contract, elimination of the services of a Hospital Executive Director from the
contract and the reduction of consultation services.
The services of a Hospital Executive Director have been provided under contract
with Nu-Med Medical , Inc. for the past two years. Shortly after this Contract is
executed, the department will be requesting Board action to fill the Hospital Executive
Director position with a County employee. This is the first in a series of actions
which both Nu-Med Medical , Inc. and the Health Services Department agree are essential
to achieve stand-alone capability for the Department.
This contract has been approved as to legal form by County Counsel 's Office.
