HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11182008 - C.76 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Contra` `��' FROM: William Walker, M.D. Health Services Director Costa DATE: November 4, 2008 �oU>y County SUBJECT: Purchase of SQL Server 2008 Licenses SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department, to execute a Purchase Order, in an amount not to exceed $240,271.70,for the purchase of 2000 Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Client Access Licenses. FISCAL IMPACT: Total cost of$240,271.70 is budgeted in the Enterprise I. BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S): Microsoft SQL Servers are databases that store the data for many of our vendor-supplied systems and many of our mission-critical, in-house developed applications including, but not limited to, the Enterprise Master Patient Index (eMPI) which supports the phone routing of incoming calls by patients to obtain outpatient clinic appointments, the Immunization Registry and Basic Health Care/Healthcare Coverage Initiative. All users who need to have access to any of these databases must have their Client Access Licenses upgraded to match the new version of the backend database now that it is SQL Server version 2008. Microsoft has ended support for SQL Server 2000 therefore the Health Services Department is required to move to the latest version of this software. All new database application development or purchases therefore must be moved or configured to run on the now currently supported version SQL Server 2008. We will not be legally compliant without buying the new Client Access Licenses of 2008.
