Prioritize and assign to appropriate committees The Commission consists of 15 members. Persons who are involved as contractors with Contra Costa Health Plan (CCHP) cannot be members of the Managed Care Commission (MCC), nor can Health Services Department employees. No less than one Medi-Cal Subscriber; One Medicare Subscriber; One Commercial Subscriber; One person sensitive to medically indigent health care needs; One physician, non-contracting; One other provider, non-contracting, and; No less than nine at-large members, non-contracting may serve. The Director of Health Services is an ex-officio, non-voting member. The Chief Executive Officer of CCHP is an ex-officio, non-voting member. The Board of Supervisors functions as an ex- officio, non-voting member. Terms of office are for three years. The IOC reviews nominations for all seats on the Commission. The Internal Operations Committee reviewed and approved the nomination and proffers a recommendation to the Board for appointment. This recommendation was adopted unanimously at the September 2008 MCC Governance Committee meeting and as well as the MCC. An application for the new appointment is attached. We are pleased that with this appointment, all seats on the Commission will be filled. Appoint Andre Ptaszynski to the (currently vacant) At-Large Seat#6 • Architect in practice in Lafayette whose experiences during his late wife's illness brought the issues of health care into sharp focus. • Through his elderly mother he has become constantly aware of the problems of aging and the difficulties the elderly face when navigating the health care delivery systems. • Further, he thinks of his father, an MD, who spent his entire career as a government physician because he could not countenance "medicine for profit." The Chair of the MCC plans to seat this Commissioner at the November 19, 2008, MCC meeting. Thank you for your consideration. Attachment .
