GWEN REGALIA ON THE OCCASION
OF HER RETIREMENT
WHEREAS, Gwen Regalia has been a Walnut Creek resident since October 1958 and is, a graduate of the
University of California at Berkeley, and holds a Life'Credental in Elementary Education; and
WHEREAS, Gwen Regalia,was formerly a member,of the Walnut Creek School,Board during 1978 through 1987 : .
and served as president for two,years, and Mrs; Regalia has served as a membei of Association of Bay Area
Governments (ABAG) Executive Board since 1989 and has served as President of ABAG from 2002 to
2004; and
WHEREAS, Gwen Regalia has served ori`the Walnut Creek;City Council'since November 1987;and she was re-
elected in November 1991 and subsequently ie elected in Noveik'mber 1996, November 2000; ai7d,
November 2004 Mrs:Regatta served as"mayor in 1991, 1996, 1999;and 2003.. She became:mayor for an
extraordinary fifth.teri z on'Dec.'4,_2007:and will serve.until-December 2,- and;;,
WHEREAS, Gwen,Regalia, as council;tnernber,.served as a member of the policy coin tinttee for "Shaping Our
Future," a collaborative.effort by all 19 cities and Contra Costa County to,,a, future growth. She has
also served as Chair of the City-County Relations Cot n inttcgand,r„
WHEREAS, Gwen Regalia is- a former member'and chair of rjle regional,transportatton igency known as

WHEREAS, Gwen Regalia has participated`in various cammtttees including 'service a pastpresident of the

Valley Foundation fot,the Aging ,Nls Regalia is also a 40'P u4ryear`-inember of the American Association of

WHEREAS, Gwen Regalta.is a advocate for many local cu'l al` tions including: the Lindsay Wildlife
Museum, the Walnut xeek'..Oper Space Foundation., Walnut Creek Action for Beauty Council, Walnut
Creek Sister Cities International, and the Walnut Creek.Historical Society and; and
WHEREAS, Gwen Regalia's other affiliations"include th&-talifo nta' Elected Women's Association and the
National Women's Political Caucus She reeeived'"the 1998 Women :of .Achievement Award for
Government from the Contra Costa Tithes and Broadway Plaza;,and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT. THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY BOARD OF'
SUPERVISORS recognizes, Gwen Regalia for her irm-neasurable contributions to the City of Walnut
