SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO ACCEPT FUNDS FROM CONTRA COSTA
CHILDCARE COUNCIL FOR A DEMONSTRATION PROJECT
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
APPROVE land AUTHORIZE the Employment& Human Services Director,or designee,to
amend an agreement to accept funds from Contra Costa Childcare Council to increase the
payment limit by$4,950 for a new total not to exceed $22,950 and to extend the term from
December '31, 2008 to June 30, 2009 for an Early Learning Demonstration Project.

FISCAL IMPACT:
Funding will be appropriated into the Department's fiscal year 2008-09 budget. No net
county costs..

Childcare Council grant/ Riverview (39-893-3) November 4, 2008
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Community Services Bureau of the Employment & Human Services Department's
Head Start program supports three of Contra Costa County's community outcomes -
Outcome 1: "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School," Outcome 3: "Families that
are Economically Self-sufficient," and, Outcome 4: "Families that are Safe, Stable, and
Nurturing." These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including
high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-income children
throughout Contra Costa County.
BACKGROUND:
On September 16, 2008 the Board of Supervisors approved receipt of funds for.Riverview
Head Start site to receive on-site observation and material support in the pursuit of
National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation.
Services are to be provided at Riverview Children's Center, 227 Pacifica Avenue, Bay
Point, CA 94553.
This amendment seeks to extend the term from July 1, 2008 through December 31, 2008
to a new`te,rm July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009 and to add $4,950 to the agreement.
Acceptance of these funds will assist the Riverview Head Start center achieve benchmarks
to reach accreditation status with National Association for the Education of Young Children
(NAEYC) in the coming months.
