RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution Number 20623,to add one(1) permanent full-time Community&Media Relations Specialist
(APTC),position at salary level QS5-1511 ($4,769-$5,797)and cancel one(1) Departmental Community&Media Relations Coordinator
(ADSH) position 7031 at salary level B85-1649($5,468-$6,647)as recommended by the Interim Human Resources Director.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of this action will be offset 100% by State and Federal Funding, and a canceled 40/40 position, resulting in a cost savings of
$255; no Net County Cost.
BACKGROUND:
During the last six(6) months the department has temporarily filled the media relations function at the Community and Media Relations
Specialist level in order for the Director to determine the department's needs. After an operational review of communications and
media needs for EHSD the director has determined that the current need is to add a position at the Community and Media Relations
Specialist level and to cancel the vacant position that resulted from a retirement.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this request is not approved, the Director and Department will not have adequate qualified and assigned staff to manage and
coordinate the community and media relations for the EHS Department.

BACKGROUND:
The specialist position is responsible to assist in planning and coordinating community and media relations for the program bureaus,
work with the Workforce Services, Adult and Aging and Children and Family Services Bureaus directors and assigned staff to develop
and publish bureau and program specific printed materials. This includes the coordination of editing and production of materials while
interfacing with graphics designers, web producers and other County staff. Meets with program staff to identify and develop effective
methods of outreach, prepares program staff to conduct effective interviews with the media and works with staff on internal
communications and the development of the department's web page.
