The LUCAS system provides mechanical chest compressions when used by paramedics and emergency medical technicians on patients suffering from cardiac arrest. With the advent of new American Heart Association Guidelines that call for continuous "uninterrupted, fast, hard compressions" which can be difficult to maintain for extended periods of time and during transport in an ambulance, the use of a mechanical chest compression devise that provides chest compressions automatically can be a clear advantage. In return for county participation in the LUCAS Clinical Registry, 2008, Lolife AB will contract with the county and will provide 12 LUCAS chest compression systems with accessories valued at $15,000 per unit for the initial data collection phase. At the end of the data collection period estimated to be six months, the 12 LUCAS systems will become county property. Jolife AB will also provide a 'Train the Trainers" program for training on the use of the equipment, and a $5,000 educational grant.
