SUBJECT: Amend Contract with Language Line Services for Interpretation and Translation Services

RE.COMMENDATION(S)
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to execute a
contract amendment with Language Line Services, Inc., a California Corporation, effective October 1, 2008,
with no change in the payment limit of$600,000 and no change in the contract term of April 1, 2008 through
March 31, 2009 to amend the payment provisions for the provision of interpretation and translation services.

BACKGROUND
Contractor was selected through the competitive process (Request for Proposal #1097)to provide telephone
interpretation, onsite interpretation, and document translation services to non-English speaking recipients of
Employment and Human Services Department (EHSD) services.
This Board Order seeks approval to add language to the contract to provide for a change in Contractor's billing
options in the provision of interpretation and translation services.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT
This contract supports all of the community outcomes established in the Children's Report Card: 1) "Children
Ready for and Succeeding in School"; 2) "Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive
Adulthood"; 3) "Families that are Economically Self Sufficient"; 4) "Families that are Safe, Stable and
Nurturing"; and 5) "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families,"
by providing interpretation and translation services to non-English speaking clients.
