FISCAL IMPACT: Upon approval, the cost associated with this action is $123,700, and is 100% funded by Juvenile Offender Block Grant/Probation Department funds. BACKGROUND: On October 1, 2008 the Probation Department's Youthful Offender Transition Program will begin treating juvenile offenders. The position will be responsible for mental health assessments, providing group, family and individual counseling, and teaching pro-social skills, anger management. The position will be assigned to Health Services Mental Health Division for supervision. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this request is not approved, the department will not be able to provide the Probation Department a dedicated Mental Health Clinical Specialist to provide counseling services to juvenile offenders.
