Volunteer of the Year Mary Lou Lauscher has played an active role in ensuring community input and involvement in Monument Corridor's Community Based Transportation Plan which resulted in the development of a community shuttle, County Connections Bus Route 8, which enabled better transportation services for elderly residents to health facilities. Ms. Lauscher has worked diligently to bring transportation programs into the Monument Corridor to serve seniors with special attention on non-English speaking residents. Provider of the Year Caring Hands Volunteer Caregivers Program provides "Friendly Visitors," screened and trained volunteers who are matched with individual home-bound seniors. Caring Hands' Friendly Visitors truly do become friends to their seniors, as they see them weekly to provide a number of services, including: friendly visiting and companionship;. Minor home repairs and yard work; errands and shopping; light household chores; transportation; friendly calling; and respite care and meal preparation.
