IN THE MATTER OF HONORING LIZ LAMACH RESOLUTION NO. 2008/55
FOR HER EXTRAORDIANRY EFFORTS IN THE
CREATION OF MATTEO'S DREAM PLAYGROUND
WHEREAS, Liz Lamach recalled that some of her best childhood memories were of days spent at city
parks; and
WHEREAS, Liz Lamach's son Matteo has special needs and Liz was concerned he would never
experience the joy of playing in a park, so Liz incorporated her ideas into a proposal for Concord
to build the first playground of its kind in the Bay Area; and
WHEREAS, Liz Lamach pursued her dream to create a playground for children of ALL abilities on
behalf of her son and all other children; and
WHEREAS, Liz Lamach brought together more than 3,300 volunteers, including various Lions Club
chapters in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties, to help with the construction and to,raise more
than $750,000 in addition to $232,000 donated in park funds; and
WHEREAS, Matteo's Dream Playground, designed by Dennis Wille of Leathers and Associates of New
York, serves as a blueprint for how a park can be constructed for all children, incorporating
innovations such as giant musical instruments and stainless steel slides that don't generate static
electricity,which can damage deaf children's cochlear implants; and
WHEREAS,Liz Lamach was named one of Diablo Magazine's Volunteers of the Year for 2007;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors hereby honors Liz
Lamach for her dedicated thoughtful, and inspiring work for children and for all residents of
Contra Costa County -
