This action will result in no net County cost. BACKGROUND: In 2000, the Department of Child Support Services separated from the District Attorney's Office and established their own set of classifications, many of which mirrored the classifications that were being utilized in the District Attorney's office. One of these classifications was the Child Support Attorney Assistant which mirrored the District Attorney's classification of DA Attorney Assistant. The classifications perform identical duties with the only distinction being that one is in the Department of Child Support Services while the other performs the duties in the DA's office. Additionally, the salary of the Legal Assistant classification was reallocated in order to bring the salary up to market. However, the Child Support Services Attorney Assistant was overlooked in this transaction, and this action is necessary in order to consolidate the duties of these positions into one classification that can be utilized by all three departments as well as to ensure that all three positions are compensated equally. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this request is not approved, the Child Support Services Attorney Assistant classification will not be appropriately compensated for the responsibilities and duties that are assigned to this position.
