SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONS) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment; Resolution # 20429 to establish the classification of Duplicating Machine Operator
II (9XVE) (represented); ALLOCATE to salary schedule QS5-1166 ($3,323.19- $4,039.36); RE-TITLE
Duplicating Machine 0perator(represented) to Duplicating Operator I (represented); RE-TITLE Lead Central
Services Technician (represented) to Lead Print & Mail Services Technician (represented) in the General
Services Department. As recommended by the Assistant County Administrator-Director of Human Resources.
FISCAL IMPACT: There are no immediate costs associated with this request as the department is not
requesting to add any positions at this time.
BACKGROUND: Currently, in the Print & Mail Services Division, there is the classification of Duplication
Machine Operator. The current classification does not adequately represent the varied and technically
challenging duties that are necessary to complete the necessary tasks. A higher-level classification is necessary
to handle the more technical, highly complex jobs that are not included in the classification of Duplicating
Machine Operator. The department is also requesting to retile Duplicating Machine Operator to Duplicating
Machine Operator I to accurately represent the growth between the two positions. They are requesting flexible
staffing between Duplicating Machine Operator I and Duplicating Machine Operator II as there will be a
natural progression of assignments from entry level to journey level ranging from basic skills to highly complex
and technical functions.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this request is not approved, the employees performing the
higher level duties will continue to work out of scope of their classification.
