HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 01082008 - C.24 IN THE MATTER OF RECOGNIZING RESOLUTION NO. 2008/38 ONE DAY AT A TIME y WHEREAS, One Day At A Time was founded in 1997 by Mr. Johnny Rodriguez to help young men and women who are at high risk of gang involvement or are already gang members turn their lives around; and WHEREAS, One Day At A Time has been active in the communities of Brentwood, Oakley and Pittsburg; and WHEREAS, One Day At A Time provides positive opportunities to improve the lives of young people by providing social bonding through a supportive network of peers and adults who promote and help in the development of decision-making skills that empower these young people; and WHEREAS, One Day At A Time's program service is customized and can be divided into four components: youth, school, parents, and community; and WHEREAS, One Day At A Time's program extends over a nine month period in which the participants are encouraged to develop four critical life skills: self-discipline, responsibility, good judgment, and the ability to get along with others; and WHEREAS, One Day At A Time provides support services and interventions that include: weekly group meetings, monthly parent workshops, crisis interventions, educational field trips, school and home visits; and WHEREAS, One Day At A Time offers removal of gang-related tattoos for program participants who are actively taking steps to improve their lives and have successfully completed the program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AT the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors hereby recognizes the extensive contr' do s that One Day At A Time provides to youth in our communities.
