IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTIONNO. 2008/67
HONORING AND RECOGNIZING
THE "LINOLCOLNCHILD CENTER"
ON ITS 125TH ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, The Lincoln Child Center provides mental health services for children and families
living throughout the Bay Area through their residential, education, and community based
programs. For one hundred twenty five years, the Lincoln Child Center's mission has been
to enable vulnerable and emotionally troubled children and their families to lead
independent and fulfilling lives; and
WHEREAS, The Lincoln Child Center was established in 1883 and the children who passed
through its doors were orphans or children of parents who could no longer provide for
them, and one hundred twenty five years later, the Lincoln Child Center is still leading the
way in serving the needs of our county's most vulnerable citizens; and
WHEREAS, The Lincoln Child Center is both a school for approximately ninety students and a
residential care program for fifty youngsters who cannot live with families because many
troubled children are estranged from their homes for their own safety, and the Lincoln Child
Center has become the temporary family and home for these children; and
WHEREAS, The residential programs of Lincoln Child Center provide excellent structured care,
extensive counseling, and a sense of belonging to enable the children to return to their own
homes, kinship families, or foster care; and
WHEREAS, The Lincoln Child Center has expanded its services into the community with
prevention and early intervention programs for at-risk children, and all of their programs
and support systems_are designed to encourage positive life choices,improve self-confidence,
promote healthy development and strengthen the family.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County
hereby extends congratulations to the Lincoln Child Center for one hundred twenty five
years of selfless service to children and their families, giving them a place grow and thrive.
