The existence of marijuana clubs is an issue is based on lies and deceit. Almost anyone can qualify to get a card to get "medical marijuana" . There are dishonest health practicioners out there who will take the hefty fees to write a prescription without a valid examination of the -"patients" . The "patients" are known to deal their ill-gotten marijuana to others in order to make a living for themselves. I am particularly concerned about sales to minors; our young people are under an onslaught of mind-altering drugs as,. never. before. When you consider these young people are the future of America, I urge you to use the power you have to ban these "pot clubs. " Sincerely, Marilynne L. Mellander 7010 Monte Verde Rd. ElSobrante, CA 94803 510-223-0443 Editor: Antioch's increasing crime ultimately affects everyone! And, so does Mayor Freitas', Council majority's, and Police Chief Jim Hyde's incompetence in our Public Safety matters. It's time for each of them to leave! We can do far better with more reliable decision-makers! Antioch's recently reported"violent crime up 31%" in 2007 doesn't tell the full story, but it's more than enough reason to justify getting rid of them! Antioch's Chief Hyde was hired about two years ago with great fanfare by the City Manager, with approval from Mayor Freitas and the then Council (Reggie Moore wasn't on board then), and at great employment expense., Reported violent crime has actually increased by over 55% in just these past two years. And,the other Part 1 crimes have increased by over 42%within the same period. An ineffective Mayor,Chief, and Council majority therefore are useless to us. They haven't been held accountable to us and our safety. We've forewarned and predicted this occurring for many years now, even in the face of criticism by some. Need we therefore say that we were right all along? No,the facts have already answered that! Chief Hyde is the wrong Public Safety Administrator for Antioch, as is Mayor Freitas and the Council majority! Chief,Hyde may very well .be a nice, cordial, event attending, picnic, hot dogs and hamburgers eating, and coffee shop attending person. But, the facts remain that crime has significantly increased during his running our Public Safety personnel and resources. So too is Mayor Freitas and the Council majority wrong for Antioch. Like we've said many times in 2007,they've been too busy fighting visible garbage cans, parked RVs, boats, trailers, vegetation, and the like, under their mantra of it affecting our "quality of life." Obviously they don't consider violent crimes and criminals against our lives falling within such areas of concern. Dr. House on TV identifies incompetent people he finds saying "they're idiots." Individually you may not have been the past victim, but as these things go your chances in the future become greater that you will be! Each of you can check on Antioch's reported crimes via the State's Criminal Justice Statistics Center. I have! Every month Police agencies compile and report to the State their crime stats, and yearly stats too (I did such for 2 Police agencies I previously worked for). Oh,you won't find any crimes committed by Antioch's visible garbage cans, parked RVs,boats, trailers, vegetation, and the like! Mayor Freitas,Hyde, and the Council majority have made Antioch the laughing stock of this County. But, it's no laughing matter that they have irresponsibly and incompetently neglected dealing with our increasing crime. They have to go! We can do much better! We'll deal with it as we can. So too should Antioch's residents, property owners, Taxpayers, etc. It's also about time that the CC Times newspaper stop worshiping these people, and start digging deeper into and reporting on their ineffectiveness. There was no . actual vote to actually place it anywhere. To consider something proposed is not to allow it. The Board of Supervisors did nothing more, like our Antioch City Council and School Board often does (such as Ferry Service and "proposed" school bonds). Like Federal Glover has clearly said and documented "there is NO WAY a prison will be built in Antioch or any other community in Contra Costa County." I agree! Unfortunately there are what seems to be purposeful political misinterpretations by certain groups of suspect individuals, elected officials, and others, who want to use this to try and discredit Federal Glover in particular.Their own words and actions tells me that they obviously can't read or comprehend the English language,or are just spurious evil-mongers who have other agendas at play. I've put many criminals in jail in my 33+years in law enforcement and side with Federal Glover that this "proposal won't happen anywhere in Antioch or CCC. I trust Federal on this,as I trust the other Supervisors, and just hate the games people play with words that " they distort for their evil reasons. One more thing - read the card mailed to you by Federal, you idiots! Citizens For Democracy . Ralph A.
