Costa DATE: February 12, 2008 s � County 'Oun+y SUBJECT: Approval of Contract#26-385-9 with California Nurses Bureau SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Jeff Smith, MD) to execute on behalf of the County, Contract #26-385-9 with California Nurses Bureau, a corporation, in an amount not to exceed X100,000, to provide nursing registry services for Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2008. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is funded 100% in the Department'.s Enterprise I budget. BACKGROUNDAREASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S): For several years, the County has contracted with registries to provide temporary medical professionals to assist Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health. Centel during peal: loads, temporary absences, and emergency Situations. There is a nationwide nursing and healthcare sta.1.71' shortage, and in spite of persistent efforts to recruit nurses and bthe•'healthcare staff., the Department has experienced great difficulty in filling any vacant positions. Therefore, the Department has had to rely heavily on the registry services in order to provide quality nursing care for patients. On December 19, 2006, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-385-7 (as amended by Amendment Agreement #26-385-8) with California Nurses Bureau for the period from January 1, 2007 throu011 December 31, 2007, for the provision of nursing registry services for Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers. Approval of Contract #26-385-9 will allow the Contractor to continue providing nursing registry services through December 31, 2008.
