HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 02262008 - C.51 Gs/ TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Contra FROM: William Walker, M.D., Health Services Director ,�: :<� By: Jacqueline Pigg, Contracts Administrator .,_ _�. � .� Costa DATE: February 11,2008 r;�_ ;= County SUBJECT: Approve Standard Agreement (Amendment) #29-203-85 with the California Department of Public Health SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Wendel Brunner, M.D.), to execute on behalf of the County, Standard Agreement (Amendment) #29-203-85 (State #025-45752, A-1) with the California Department of Public Health, effective October 1, 2007, to increase the total payment limit by $428,000 from $8,640,000 to a new total payment limit of$9,068,000, for continuation of the Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), with no change in the original term of October 1, 2005 through September 30, 2008. FISCAL IMPACT: This amendment will increase funding by $428,000, for a new total of$9,068,000, for the Women, Infants and Children Supplemental Food Program (WIC) through September 30, 2008. No County Funds required. BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S): For over eighteen years the County has participated in the WIC Program with the State. This is a mandated program under the Community Health Services Division of the State Department of Health Services. WIC is a nutrition education, counseling and food supplement program for low-income, pregnant, postpartum and breast-feeding women, infants and children at nutritional risk. This program serves approximately 16,675 clients. On December 20, 2005, the Board of Supervisors approved Standard Agreement#29-203-84 with the State Department of I Iealth Services, for the Supplemental Food Program, for the period from October 1, 2005 through September 30, 2008. Approval of Standard Agreement (Amendment) #29-203-85 will provide funding for continuous nutrition assessment and education, community referrals, and food checks to 18,375 clients per month. Four certified and sealed copies of this Board Order should be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit.
