SUBJECT: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to enter into a
Memorandum of Understanding with the County of San Joaquin for access to and
maintenance for the ARIES Integrated Justice System.
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION(S):
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to enter into.a Memorandum of
Understanding with the County, of San Joaquin to participate in the ARIES Integrated Justice
System for the purpose of sharing and integrating criminal information for an amount up to
$30,000 from July 1, 2008 and remains in effect through June 30, 2009.

Agencies countywide. The yearly access and maintenance fees are $30,000, and the MOU remains in effect
until terminated by mutual written agreement. The MOU sets forth the governing policies and procedures
for the use of ARIES by participating agencies, to include maintenance and responsibility of the
information within the system. ARIES has the capability to make potential linkages between law
enforcement information from crime incidents, criminal investigations, arrests, bookings, paroles and
other pertinent information. Participation agencies will benefit from the shared information as well as
improve homeland security.
