HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 12092008 - C.56 (4 TO: EIOARD OF SUPERVISORS - On a FROM: William Walker; M.D.,Health Services Director By: Jacqueline Pigg, Contracts Administrator Costa DATE: November 19, 2008 County chdn SUBJECT: Approval of Standard Agreement#28-609-7 with the California Department of Public Health SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Wendel Brunner, M.D.), to execute, on behalf of the County, Standard Agreement #28-609-7 (State #08-85397) with the California Department of Public Health, for HIV laboratory testing services provided by the County's Public Health Laboratory. This Standard Agreement provides a maximum amount of$22,000 per each fiscal year, not to exceed a total of $66,000, for the period from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2011. In accordance with the term of the agreement, County agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the State for any claims arising out of the performance of this Agreement. FISCAL,IMIPACT: Under this .Agreement the State will pay the County on a fixed price of$100 per HIV viral load test. The maximum amount payable to the County shall not exceed a total of$22,000 per year, not to exceed a total of $66,000 during the term of the Agreement. No County funds are required. BACKGR0IJND/REAS6N(S)FOR RECOMMENDATION(S): On August 9, 2005, the Board of Supervisors approved Standard Agreement #28-609-6 (905-45208) with the State Department of Health Services (now known as the California Department of Public Health, for the period from,July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2008, for the Viral Load Testing Program. Under Standard Agreement#28-609-7 (State#08-85397),this program will provide a.maximum of 660 viral load testing services to the County's AIDS Program, as well as to other County Health Department AIDS programs. The testing is funded by the State Office of AIDS to provide services to HIV infected persons who are not: Medi-Cal eligible, do not have private insurance, and who otherwise cannot afford this service. Viral Load'Testing is important in prognosis and management of antiviral therapy. Three certified and sealed copies of this Board Order should be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit.
