SUBJECT: P300 #20640 — Clerk Recorder
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution Number 20640,to add two(2)permanent full-time Election Services Technicians(EBTA)positions at salary
level 3R5-1135($3,287-$3,996)and cancel one(1)vacant Clerk Experience Level(JWXB)position#5845 at salary level 3RH-0750($2,682-$3,328)
and one(1)vacant Clerk Senior Level(JWXC)position#5803 at salary level 3RX-1033($2,964-$3,785)as recommended by the Interim Human
Resources Director.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost for this action will be offset 100%as it is within the department budget; no Net County Cost.
BACKGROUND:
The Department's request for two(2)full time Election Services Technicians will provide needed complex technological experience. These positions
perform less clerical functions,yet have more technical responsibilities(managing GIS data,maintaining database structures, CAD mapping,etc).
Staff must know about election laws, regulations and procedures, requiring recruitment at a more technical level than clerical classifications. As
clerical positions become vacant,they are reclassified to Election Services Technicians. In October 2007,two(2)vacant clerical positions were
approved by the Board of Supervisors to be reclassified into Election Services Technicians. This P300 will switch the two(2)remaining clerical
positions to appropriate classification.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this request is not approved, the Department will.not have appropriate staff with the technical knowledge needed to support and meet the current
and future needs of elections services.
