STATE SENATOR MARK DeSAULNIER
WHEREAS, State Senator Mark DeSaulrier began his service to the people of Contra Costa in 1991 when he
was elected to the Concord City Council, where he served as a City Councilmember and Mayor of
Concord, and;
WHEREAS, from 1993 to 2006 he served on the Contra=.Costa County Board of Supervisors representing
District IVV, during which time he championed many environmental causes including air quality
management with the passage of the Industrial Safety Ordinance and.the Refinery Flare Rule for local
refineries, smart growth by establishing...the Interregional Partnership and co-authoring the. Contra
Costa County Smart Growth Action :Pan;and' helping to bring to fruition the transit oriented
development at Contra Costa; e.And. "
WHEREAS, Supervisor D68aulnier also fought tirelessly"£or the health and well being of women and children.
by introducing a carnpreherisive Women's Health Program t11at Included ccanstruction of four new
Women's Health Certers`4eaturing 'a "one-stop "shopping" approach`to women's health, and by
enacting the Contra, Costa'.Children's.�.Report and the- Childr1- 1en's Ac—.11111"countability Act, which have
provided .tools4'for evaluati%ng children's issues as well as the imbact of county programs on children;

WHEREAS," while Supervisor, he representedthe County.;oia the""Cali£orrua.Air Resources Board, the
Association°"of"Iiay Area Governments, the Bay Area.Air =Quality`"";Management District and the
Met'r`opolitan Transportation"Commission;and
WHEREAS, while serving as State Asserrlblymernb'er representing the,11� Assembly;District from December'
of 2006 t&November of 2008 Mark continued to address eiiv roiamental Issues, the needs-of children,-
and health'concerns,by authoring legislation to fight truancy among school children; to push back sea-
leuel rise on aur coastline, ta;'remove unsafe guns from the Bands of.children and `hieves-to improve
incloar air qualitlT;ln our schools,"to"better manage state wide£growth,ai d to create opportunities for at
risk youth,aid..

elected to the California State Senate representing the 7i Senate"District.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby
congratulates State Senator Mark DeSaulnier on his election to the California State Senate and honors
him for his forward thinking leadership that strives to improve the quality of life for all residents of
Contra Costa. ----
