DEPARTMENT °°STS c `� County DATE: DECEMBER 16, 2008 SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO EXECUTE AGREEMENT WITH CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM INSRUCTIONAL MATERIALS SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment & Human Services Director, or designee, to execute an agreement to accept funding from the California Department of Education for child development instructional materials in an amount not to exceed $7,011 for the period July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009. (All Districts) FISCAL IMPACT: Funding will be appropriated into the Department's FY 2008-09 budget. These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low- income children throughout Contra Costa County. BACKGROUND: On November 25, 2008 the Employment & Human Services Department received notification of this funding allocation from the California Department of Education. The State routinely identifies and distributes funds to its child development contractors late into the fiscal year for instructional supplies. Approval of this agreement will allow the Department to purchase instructional materials and supplies for the County's Child Development Program. I
