For all circuses$ carnivals, side show, exhibitions, and every
business of a like nature, the license fee shall be $30.00 per
day.
TOWN OF CONCORD
For the business of conducting a circus or side--eho the
following license fee shall be paid: Twenty-five ( 25*00)
dollars per day for one day's performance, or Thirty-
five ($35.40) dollars for two day's performances or Ten
($10.00) additional for each day's performance thereafter
until the amount of said license is 4154.04; provided,
however, that when said license tax amounts to $154.40
the persons so having paid the same shall be entitled to
a license for one year.

TRANSIENT SHOWS:
Section 9. (a) "Circuses" -- ;wary person engaged in the
business of conducting a menagerie or circul shall pay a
license tax as follows, to wit: First: 25.00 per day for
the main tent when the seating capacity thereof is (500)
five hundred or more, and 415.00 per day when the seating
capacity of the main tent is less than 500; and: Second:
05.00 per day for each side show, side exhibition or con-
cession in connection- with said menagerie or circus.
(b) "Street Carnivals": Every person engaiged
in the business of conducting a Street Carnival shall pay
a license tags of `5.00 per day for each show, side show,
exhibition or concession included in such Carnival or con-
nected therewith.
(c) "Other Shows 'Under Canvas": Every show or
exhibition of whatever 'rind or character, showing under
canvas or similar covering, excepting the shows heretofore
mentioned in this section, shall pay a license tag of �4�25.00
per day for each tent having a seating capacity of 500, or
more, and X12. 50 per day for each tent having a seating
capacity of Less than 500.
(d) "Other Shaws Not Under Canvas": Every
traveling exhibition of Theatrical, Minstrels Opera, Tug-
gling, Sleight of Hand, or other entertainment not ap-
pearing under canvas or in a licensed theatre shall pay
a. license tax of 410.00 per day.
(e) "Exceptions": This section shall not
apply to any amateur, Literary, Thematic , Theatrical or
Musical performance, or to entertainments of any kind given
by local churches, schools, lodges or for charitable pur-
poses.
Section 10. "Ferris Wheel, Scenic Railway, ferry-go-round,
Swings, Eto. :" Every person operating a .Ferris Wheel,
Scenic Railway, Merry-go-round, swing or similar device,
and charging or collecting fees for carrying persons
thereon shall pay a license tax of X5.00 per day for each
Ferris Wheel, Scenic Railway, Merry-go-round, swing, or
other device, provided that this Section shall not apply
to persons paying license tax under the provisions of
Section 9 of this Ordinance.

Section 76: TRANSIENT SHOWS:
(a) Circuses: Every person engaged in the business of
conducting a menagerie or circus shall pay a license tax as
follows, to wit

capacity thereof is 500 or more, and 425.00 per day when the
seating; capacity of the main tent is less than 500, and
2nd: $10.00 per day for each side show, side exhibit-
ion or concession in connection with said menagerie or circus.
(b) Street Carnivals; Every person engaged in the bus-
iness of conducting a street carnival shall pay a license tax
of 410.00 per day for each show, side show, exhibition or con-
cession included in such carnival or connected therewith.
(c) Other Shaws under canvas: Every show or exhibit-
ion of whatever kind or character, showing under canvas or
similar covering, excepting the shows heretofore mentioned
in this Section, shall pay a license tax of 050000 per day for
each tent having a seating capacity of 500 or more, and X25.00
per day for each tent having a seating capacity of less than
5000
(d) Other shows not under canvas: Every traveling
exhibition of theatricals, minstrels, opera, juggling, sleight
of hand, or other entertainment, not appearing under canvas
or in a licensed theatre, shall pay a license tag of $10.1)0
per day.
(e) Exceptions: This Section shall not apply to any
amateur literary, theatrical or musical performances; or to
entertainments of any kind given by any local church, school,
lodge or charitable organization for religious, educational,
fraternal or charitable pubposes.
Portions of Ordinance No. 512 of the City of Richmond
Section 21. Every person engaged in the business of disposing
of goods, wares or merchandise of any kind whatsoever by means of
casting or throwing rings or by any other means than the ordinary
method of barter and sale shall pay a license tax sof five dollars
(49,00) per day or twenty dollars ($20.00) per week for each stand
or appliance used in such business.
Section 26. Every person engaged in the business of giving or
conducting any show or exhibition of jugglery, necromancy, rope-
walking, merry-go-round or other show or performance not in this
ordinance otherwise provided for shall pay a license tax of fine
dollars 45.00) per day. Provided that no license shall be exa.oted
for any entertainment of any kind given by lecturers or for enter-
tainments given by amateur or local performers nor where the net
receipts of such performances are for charitable, public or benevo-
lent purposes.
Section 21. Every person conducting a business of a traveling
theatrical show except as herein otherwise provided shall pay a
license tax of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) per day.
Section 28. Every person conducting the business of a menAgerie,
circus, wild gest show or trained animal show shall pay a license
tax per day equal in amount to one hundred (100) times the highest
price charged for a single admission plus the pride charged for
reserved seats and after-show.
Section 29. Every person conducting the business of a side show
or exhibition for which an entrance fee is charged shall pay a license
tax of five dollars( 5.00) per day for each such side ,show.
Section 36. Rvery person conducting the business of ghat is
commonly known as a "street carnival whether such street carnival
is conducted upon a public street or elsewhere in the City of Richmond
shall pay a license tan of one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) per
day.
Section 36A. On written application therefor the Council may
In its discretion grant a permit for any of the businesses described
in Sections 21, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 36 of this ordinance without
exacting any license tax provided for in said sections, when a por-
tion of the proceeds of the business is to be paid_to' one or more
of the charitable, fraternal, civic or patriotic organisations in
the City of Richmond under whose auspices the business is to be
conducted.

See. 76. Every person, firm, association or corporation
engaged in the business of conducting a menagerie, circus,
or dog and pony show, shall pay a license tax of Fifty
($50) dollars per day. For every additional day Twenty-
five ($25) dollars. And every person, firm, association
or corporation engaged in the business of conducting a
theatrical, vaudeville or other show under canvas or out
of doors other than those hereinbefore mentioned shall pay
a license tax of e'en ( 10) dollars for the first day and
Five (05) dollars for each additional day.
See. 77. Every person, firm, association, or corporation
owning or operating any traveling exhibition or theatrical,
minstrelsy, opera, juggling or slight of hand or other per-
formance not showing under canvas shall pay a license of
42.50 per day, provided, that the above shall not apply to
any entertainment for the benefit of any church, school,
charitable purpose, or any amateur literary, or theatrical
performance.
Sea. 78. Every person, firm, association or corporation
who carrids on the practice or profession, or who practices
the business or art of astrology, palmistry, phrenology,
life reading, fortune telling, cartomacy, clairvoyance,
clairaudence, crystal gazing, hypnotism, m.ediumship,
prophect, augury, dramatic, magic or necromancy or other
similar business and who demands or receives a fee for the
e ercise or exhibition for his art of practice therein or
wio gives an exhibition therein or at any place where an

admission fee Is charged, the license tax shall be 4100 per
year.
Sec. 79. Every person, firm, association or corporation
engaged in the business of keeping or conducting or main-
taining a skating rink, the license shall be $10 per month.

Section 85. Every person operating a moving picture show
or theatre shall pay a license tax as ftllowso to wit:
150 per year for each seat contained therein.
Section 90. Every person, firm or corporation or association
conducting out of doors shows known as carnivals shall pay
a license tax of $100.00 for the first day and 50.00 for
each day thereafter.

(a) Each bill poster, $2.50 per day;
(b ) Each advertising sign painter, $1.00 per day;
( c ) Each street musician, :$1.00 per day;
(d) Each -patent medicine vendor, $5.00 per day;
(e) Each astrologer, fortune teller, medium or
clairvoyant, 05.00 per day.
(20) Every person, firm or corporation giving an ex-
hibit of glass-blowing, whether or not admission is charged
thereto, shall Day a license tax of $10.00 per day.
Ordinance No. 84A Filed April 16P 1928 amends as follows:
5. Every traveling circus or menagerie shall pay a
license tax of One Hundred Dollars ($100.00 ) per day.
6.Every show or exhibition of whatever kind or
character showing under canvas, other than a circus or menagerie'
shall pay a license tax of Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00) per day.
This subdivision is intended to apply to each separate booth or
subdivision of every show and exhibition showing under canvas.
7 . Every traveling exibition of theatricals, minstrels,
opera, juggling or sleight of hand shall "Day a license tax of
Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00) per day; provided that this sec-
tion shall not apply to any entertainment for the benefit of
any school, church or charitable purpose, or any amateur liter-
ary or amateur theatrical performance.
11. Every person, firm or corporation running or oiler-.

5. Every travelling circus or menagerie shall pay
a license tax of Ten ($10.00) Dollars per day.
6. Every show or exhibition of whatever kind or
character showing under canvas other than a circus or menagerie
shall pay a license tax of two and 50/100 ($2. 50) dollars per
day.
7. every travelling exhibition of theatricals,
minstrels, opera, ,juggling or sleight-off-hand shall pay a
license tax of Two and 50/100 (42.50) Dollars per day; provided
that this section shall not apply to any entertainment for
the benefit of any church, school or charitable purpose or to
any amateur, literary or theatrical performance.
11. Every person, firm or corporation running or opera-
ting a merry-go-round shall pay a license tax of Five ($5.00)
Dollars per day.
18 Every person engaged in the following occupations
or callings shall pay a license tax as follows:
(a) Each travelling bill poster One Dollar ($1.00)
per day.
