SUBJECT: Position Adjustment Resolution # 20439
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution #20439 reactivating the
classification of Deputy Director of Information Technology— Exempt (LTD1, unrepresented),
and abandoning the classification of Deputy Director of Information Technology (LTDA,
unrepresented).
BACKGROUND: The Deputy Director of Information Technology is an executive management
level position within the Department of Information Technology (DoIT). In this role, the Deputy
Director is responsible for day-to-day operations of an entire division within DoIT. In keeping
with DoIT's objective of maintaining maximum responsiveness on the part of executive
management, the Deputy Director of Information Technology was established as an exempt
classification. Subsequently, when unfunded and unfilled positions were cut by DoIT, this
position was deleted while another, non-exempt Deputy Director position was maintained.
According to the Chief Information Officer, this was an administrative error on the part of DoIT. .
This action seeks to re-establish the exempt classification that was previously inactivated, and to
abandon the non-exempt Deputy Director position.
FISCAL IMPACT: None. There are no costs associated with this action, since the action
requests an "add and cancel" of identically compensated positions.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Based on the.executive level of this position within
DoIT, and its integral role in assisting the Chief Information Officer, maintaining it as a merit
system classified position would be impractical. If this action is not approved, DoIT's operations
will be significantly impacted by its inability to maintain the maximum responsiveness necessary
of executive management.
