This action will result in a net County cost of$2,230. BACKGROUND: The Health Services Department has determined that there is a need to have a position perform the Registered Dental Assistant duties on a permanent basis for the Family, Maternal, and Child Health Program in the Public Health Division. The Department is currently utilizing a temporary employee to perform the duties of Registered Dental Assistant as the position was anticipated as temporary position but since the position is needed on a permanent basis and the funding is secure and stable, the Department is requesting the addition of a permanent position. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this request is not approved, the Department will continue to use a temporary position although the Department now requires these duties be performed on a permanent basis. This position is necessary in order to convert a long-term temporary employee identified by the Blue Ribbon Committee in to an appropriately classified permanent position. Registered Dental Assistants in this program provide classroom education on dental disease prevention, conduct screening for elementary school children, and provide sealants to eligible children.
