SUBJECT: Amendment No. 2 to an existing On-Call Consulting Services Agreement with MGE Engineering,
Inc. (District III) (Road Funds)
SPECIFIC REQUI-ST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUS-1-1171CATION
RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director,or designee,to execute
Amendment No. 2 to an existing On-Call Consulting Services Agreement with MGE Engineering, Inc. effective
October 16,2007,to increase the payment limit by$130,000 to a new payment limit of$230,000 in order to provide
structural engineering services for the Vasco Road Safety Project, Brentwood area.
FISCAL IMPACT: This contract amendment allows for an additional $130,000 (100% Road Funds) above the
previously approved contract for $100,000. There is no impact to the General Fund.

SUBJECT: Amendment No. 2 to the On-Call Consulting Services Agreement with MGE Engineering, Inc.
(District III) (Road Funds)

REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS AND BACKGROUND:
Public Works staff has been working with Nolte Associates to design safety improvements on Vasco Road. The
planned safety improvements require roadway and bridge widening to accommodate a barrier to protect motorists
traveling in opposite directions. The Public Works Department is recommending that MGE Engineering, Inc.
perform the structural design work for the bridge widening under an existing on-call consulting services agreement
in order to expedite the design process.The existing on-call consulting services agreement with MGE Engineering,
Inc. was established in July of 2006. This amendment increases the payment limit of the existing agreement in order
provide specific structural design services for this Vasco Road Safety Project.
CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If the amendment is not approved, the design of the Vasco Road Safety Project will be delayed in order to seek a
different structural design consultant.

AMENDMENT No. 2
ON-CALL CONSULTING SERVICES AGREEMENT
MGE ENGINEERING, INC.
1. Parties:
Effective on October 16, 2007, the County of Contra Costa, a political subdivision of the State of
California, hereinafter referred to as "Public Agency," and MGE Engineering, Inc, hereinafter
referred to as "Consultant," mutually agree and promise as follows:
A. To increase contract payment limits by $130,000.00
2. Purpose:
The parties desire to amend the agreement they entered into effective July 18, 2006 entitled "On-
Call Structural Engineering Consulting Services" hereinafter referred to as the "Agreement." The
Agreement is to provide structural engineering services and recommendations on an on-call basis
for Public Works Design staff. This amendment is necessary to reimburse the Consultant for
expected work beyond the original limits of the existing on-call consulting service agreement.
3. Amendment(s) to Agreement:
Amend Section 1(e):
Agreement Payment Limits to $230,000.00:
4. Remaining Provisions:
Except for the changes made by this Amendment, all provisions of the Agreement shall remain in
full force and effect.
5. Signatures:
