SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO ACCEPT FUNDING FROM SHELL OIL FOR
HEAD START PROGRAM
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment & Human Services Director, or designee, to
accept funding from Shell Oil in the amount of$1,567.32 for the Martinez Head Start program for
the period December 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007. (No County Match) (District II)
FISCAL IMPACT:
This agreement accepts funds from Shell Oil. Funds will be added to the department's FY 2006-
07 budget.

Shell Oil donation January 23, 2007
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Community Services Bureau of the Employment& Human Services Department's Head
Start program supports two of Contra Costa County's community outcomes: "Children Ready for
and Succeeding in School" and "Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing." These
outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early
childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra
Costa County.
BACKGROUND:
Shell Oil has a recycling program which regularly donates funds to local causes. This
fiscal year, Shell selected the Martinez Head Start program as the recipient of
$1,567.32 for program enhancement of its childcare programs. Funds will be used to
purchase needed classroom materials and educational supplies to support the
delivery of program services to children and families by June 30, 2007.
