THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
Adjournment January 23,2007
On this day the Board of Supervisors adjourned this meeting in honor of George Cardinet and fellow
equestrians lobbied for establishment of the state's first hiking and riding trail on a 1,200-mile route between the
coastal hills and the Sierra. He also was a key supporter of a 1968 law to establish a federal trail system.
Cardinet led a 900-mile ride from Mexico to Contra Costa in 1976. The riders followed the national Anza trail, the
route Spanish explorers used to arrive and settle in the Bay Area, and Cardinet was one of the few who rode the
entire route.
Service arrangements are pending.
