The purpose of Project Homeless Connect was to connect homeless persons in Contra Costa County with vital services. Services offered included assistance with applications for medical and dental care; employment services and shelter placement; mental health and alcohol and other drugs counseling and referral; legal assistance and referral; massage, pet care; and community homeless court. Additionally, breakfast and lunch was served, winter coats were given away, and translators were readily available if required. The event was sponsored by Contra Costa County Health Services Department, Homeless Services Program. Services were provided by volunteers, non-profit organizations, corporations, faith based organizations, homeless services providers, housing providers, and government agencies. Contra Costa County Project Homeless Connect 12/7/06 Final Results Attendance Consumers/households served: 509 Volunteers: 266 Service Providers: 151 Services Individuals placed in Shelter: 24 adults Families placed in Shelter: 4 total (4 adults/8 children) Dental exams/cleaning: 65 Medical exams provided: 36 Flu Shots given: 97 GA Applications completed: 20 Food stamp applications completed: 24 Homeless Court defendants: 33 Homeless Court cases: 69 HIV tests administered: 22 Donations (coats/blankets, etc.): 509 Lunch provided: 496 Massages given: 29 Social Security Applications completed: 24 Wheelchairs repaired: 3 Bicycles repaired: 1 Detox beds accessed: 3 Animal vaccinations, exams, and microchips given: 20 Comments: Consumer evaluations received: 37 An overwhelming number of consumers felt their first Project Homeless Connect experience was positive with many reporting how moved they were by the kindness and support of the volunteers. The most important services that people received that day included dental services, shelter/housing services, homeless court, food, and winter coats. The services they'd like to have at the next event include vision care and haircuts. Updated 12/22/2006
