Elder abuse still remains a largely hidden underreported and growing problem affecting one of the fastest growing segments of our population. With the passage of Senate Bill (SB) 1018, employees of financial institutions are now designated as mandated reports of financial abuse. Contra Costa County is committed to protecting the elderly population in our community and there are several County program dedicated to fight elder abuse. The County's 24-hour Adult Protective Services (APS) Program is dedicated to investigating allegations of abuse and neglect. In addition, the County's Office of the District Attorney has a special elder abuse prosecution unit that brings crimes against elderly victims to justice.
