FISCAL IMPACT: The total annual cost associated with this action is approximately $32,680 and 100% funded by General Fund monies but are offset by the elimination of a contract employee. BACKGROUND: Currently, the Recruiting Unit's clerical support staff is unable to keep up with an increase in workload. Over the past nine months, the department has utilized a temporary contract agency employee one-to-three days per week to provide clerical support; however, the Unit has experienced a high turnover of temporary agency staff which has disrupted operational flow of the Unit. The requested position will provide clerical support with recruiting, testing and employment of new recruits. The permanent intermittent position will eliminate the utilization of a temporary contract employee, reduce staff turnover and provide stabilization to the Recruiting Unit. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Failure to approve this action will result in insufficient clerical support staff in the Recruiting Unit and will impact the Office of the Sheriff s ability to recruit Deputy Sheriffs.
