RECOGNIZING THE
EMPLOYEES OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
AND THE 2006 "COUNTIES CARE"HOLIDAYFOOD FIGHT
WHEREAS,more Contra Costa County departments and employees than ever enthusiastically rose to the challenge to
raise fiinds and food for the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano during the 2006 holiday season;and
WHEREAS, the 4'r'Annual Contra Costa County Cares Challenge has become an essential part of the Food Bank of
Contra Costa and Solano's successful holiday fundraising program and this year raised funds and food equivalent to$83,889 or
126%of its goal, and
WHEREAS, the following departments and team leaders far exceeded their departmental goals of$9 per employee by
astronomical percentages:
"MINI"DEPARTMENTS: TREASURER-TAX COLLECTOR,MEREDITHBOEGER, TEAMLEADER;
SMALL DEPARTMENTS: COUNTY COUNSEL,MICHIELLEMAURER&ERIC SUITOS, TEAM LEADERS;
MIDSIZED DEPARTMENTS.ASSESSOR, JOHNBRIGGS, TEAMLEADER;
LARGE DEPARTMENTS:PROBATION, TODD BILLECI, TEAMLEADER;
SUPERVISORS' OFFICES:DISTRICTIII,MARYPIEPHO, SUPERVISOR,AMYPRENTICE, TEAMLEADER; and
WHEREAS, all County departments and team leaders showed special'ingenuity and energy by raising copious founds
and earning,kudos and various special awards, including:
CLASS OF ITS OWN.• COOPERATIVE EXTENSION,LINDA WHALEN, TEAM LEADER
MOST IMPROVED:AUDITOR-CONTROLLER,JACKIE TRA VERS AND JOANNE BARTON, TEAM LEADERS
BARREL RACE:EMPLOYMENTANDHUMANSERVICES,SHANNONO'CALLAHAN, TEAMLEADER
ADDITIONAL RECOGNITION. 100% CLUB, 200% CLUB, TEAM SPIRIT,HEART AND SOUL,
MOST CREATIVE AND OTHER AWARDS,and
WHEREAS, this phenomenal and ongoing generosity shown by employees of both Contra Costa and Solano counties
has inspired members of the public to give as well, and will help the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano in providing over 8
million pounds of food to over 82,000 low-income residents ofboth counties throughout the months to come;
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby applauds all
of the tirelessly working department leaders and congratulates all participating County departments, department heads, and
employees for their inspired efforts on behalf of their community and those,in need;and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County thanks all County employees
and residents for participating in the 2006 Counties Care holiday Food Fight and urges all citizens of Contra Costa County
and their communities to recognize the merits anmp'�r iveness of this cause and to give generously to the Food Bank of
